Sketches provide an outline to inspire and
speed up your creative processes. They are not rigid, but
instead are intended to provide a springboard for creating your
layout. This layout shows how easy it is to change and build on
any sketch to suit your needs. |
|
Set aside the Purple Petals paper for your
background. Cut a strip of Blue Petals paper measuring
approximately 22cm by 11cm. Adhere is horizontally to your
background, on the left side of the page, 12cm from the bottom.
The sketch indicates a narrower strip, but in this instance, the
larger strip added more balance to the page. |
|
Cut a strip of Pink Petals paper measuring
approximately 19.3cm by 27.5cm. If you make it any wider than
this, your floral stickers will not reach across the top. Adhere
the strip vertically, with the bottom edge along the bottom edge
of your page, approximately 1.5cm from the left side of the
page. By taking this piece all the way to the bottom of the
page, you have varied again from the sketch. This is because the
photo being used is larger than that indicated in the sketch.
This forces the elements down the page further. Extending this
strip to the bottom of the page gives greater balance as well as
visual weighting to your layout. |
|
Create your title along the top of your Pink
Petals strip. I have used Beary Patch Grape Curl Alphabet
stickers. Mat the first letter with Blue Petals paper and again
with white cardstock. Choose another letter of your title to
also mat with Blue Petals paper to add interest to your title. |
|
You will notice in the sketch that there is a
strip underneath the title. Instead of creating a rectangular
strip, like that in the sketch, create a line of flowers
underneath your title using stickers from your Karen Foster
Sweet Impressions sheet. Overlap each one slightly. If you
wish, lightly outline each flower with pink and purple pens to
help them stand out more. |
|
Mat your photo with white cardstock and
adhere directly underneath your line of flowers. The sketch also
has three small squares underneath the photo, but I have opted
not to include these due to the size of the remaining page
elements. |
|
Use a purple pen to journal on a strip of
white cardstock. Mat with Blue Petals paper and place in the
bottom right corner of your page. Place a small Karen Foster
Sweet Impressions sticker on the right side of your
journaling and a large sticker on the left side. |
|
At this point, you can see a large variation
from the original sketch in terms of how this layout is
embellished. Cut a piece of Blue Petals paper measuring 5.5cm by
5.5cm and place in the top right corner. Place a small floral
sticker inside. Position the three remaining large stickers
underneath to create a vertical line down your page. |
|
Finally, cut a piece of Blue Petals paper
measuring 3cm by 4.5cm and place in the bottom left corner.
Place a small floral sticker inside. While this element was not
in the original sketch, it does add a further sense of balance
to your page. |
|
As you can see, a sketch can provide a basic
guide for your layout, but it is easy to modify and build on to
suit your current project. Give it a go, and have some fun! |
