Shaker boxes are a great way to embellish and
add a little dimension and movement to any layout. They are an
effective way to include memorabilia into your layouts, but can
also just be added for fun! |

|
This shaker box was made as a
tag and would be perfect for any romance page.
To create this tag, you will need red cardstock,
white cardstock, a small memorabilia pocket,
foam tape or pop dots, photo tabs, red bugle
beads, clear mini beads, red fibre, one white
eyelet and Sandylion Fuzzy Red Hearts
Stickers. |
|
There are a couple of
different ways to make a shaker box. The method
used in this article was chosen in order to
minimise the bulkiness of the shaker box,
allowing it to lie relatively flat on your
layout. |
|
|
|
To begin with, cut two tags out of red
cardstock using the following template. Only cut the square out
of one of the tags. This will be your front window. Make sure
your memorabilia pocket is larger than the square, but smaller
than the width of the tag. |
|
The next step is to create the shaker section
of your tag. To do this, cut a square of white cardstock to fit
inside your memorabilia pocket. This will form the background of
your shaker as well as hide the flap on the pocket as well as
any adhesives used on the back. |
|
Once you have inserted your white backdrop,
fill your memorabilia pocket with a combination of red bugle
beads and clear mini beads. Then adhere four fuzzy red heart
stickers to thin cardstock. Cut them out around the edge of the
sticker so there is no frame and add them to your pocket. |
|
Make sure you do not overfill the pocket. You
want it to lie reasonably flat on your page and you want the
contents to be able to move around a little if shaken. When
you are happy with the contents of your shaker, seal the pocket. |
|
Cut several photo tabs in half. Place them on
the back of the window tag around the edges of the square. Stick
your pocket on top. Make sure you place it downwards (in other
words, you should only be able to see white cardstock). When you
turn it over, you will see the front of your pocket framed in
red.
|
|
The next step is to adhere the second tag to
the back. You will find that due to the depth of the pocket,
they will not sit flat. Place thin pop dots or foam tape along
the bottom of the tag and about half way up the sides. Normal
adhesive will be fine for the top half. |
|
When you have finished gluing the two tags
together, punch a hole in the top and fasten your eyelet. You can
then decorate your tag with a string of fuzzy red hearts across
the top and another fuzzy red heart in the bottom right-hand
corner. |
|
Finally, wrap a piece of fibre about the
centre of your tag and thread another through the hole in the
top. And voila! You're done! You now have a gorgeous shaker box
to use on your layouts. And the best thing about it...You can
repeat the same process with almost any stickers and for any
theme! |
