Scrapbooking Borders

Part 9

By Chris Turnbull

Chris shows us how to incorporate border stickers into this sweet Christmas layout. This layout also features a variety of other techniques including tearing, painting and hidden journaling.

This layout was created using ColorMates Dark Graceful Geranium and Dark Grassy Green Cardstock, Daisy Ds Holiday Check-Red and Check-Green patterned papers, Jo Sonjas white gesso, fine sandpaper, white ink, red Franchville eyelets, green and red fibres, NRN Christmas stickers and Sandylion Christmas Alphabet stickers.

Use Dark Graceful Geranium for your background page. To create the effect shown, sand the borders with fine sandpaper, paint with gesso and ink the edges.

Measure and cut two border strips 30cm x 4cm from the Dark Grassy Green cardstock. Also cut two border strips 30 cm x 2cm from the Dark Graceful Geranium cardstock. Paint down the middle of the Grassy Green border strips with the gesso.

Attach the straight border stickers to the Grassy Green cardstock and the wavy border stickers to the Graceful Geranium cardstock. Then attach your borders as to your layout as shown above. This creates a border along the top and bottom of your page. Set two red eyelets on both sides of the top border. Repeat for the bottom.

To create your title, tear a 4cm strip from the Green Holiday Check paper. Position your Sandylion Christmas Alphabet stickers on top of it and place approximately 2cms under the top border. Set an eyelet in each corner.

Cut a strip of Dark Grassy Green cardstock. It should be the width of your background page by approximately 12cm. Cut it in half, ink the edges and set it aside to dry.

Next, cut a strip of Holiday Check-Red paper. It should be approximately 27cm x 11cm. Cut it in half and ink the edges. Centre each piece on one of your pieces of Dark Grassy Green cardstock. Position them so they are overlapping (as shown in the layout above). Set an eyelets in each corner and attach your photos. Place the rest of your NRN Christmas stickers as shown.

The last step is to create a journaling tag. This is a great chance for you to recount some of your memories from the even being showcased. It will be hidden so you may choose to include journaling you do not necessarily want on display. Place your journaling on a tag cut from Dark Grassy Green cardstock. Mat it on Holiday Check-Green Paper. Punch a hole in the top and thread through your fibres. When you are done, slide your tag behind the second photo on your layout.
